Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity for a part-qualified accountant looking to broaden their experience and develop their career within British Sugar.

This business-facing role supports a diverse portfolio across Business Transformation and Agriculture, providing exposure to strategic initiatives, agricultural operations, capital investment and long-term planning.

Combining management accounting, financial analysis and business partnering, you will support reporting, forecasting and budgeting, provide insight to inform decision making, and help maintain robust financial controls. The role offers an excellent platform to build a broad understanding of the business and progress within finance.

Core Accountabilities

  • Deliver accurate and timely period-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, year-end activities and audit support across Business Transformation, Strategy, RDO and Agriculture.
  • Support budgets, reforecasts and five-year plan submissions, providing clear analysis and constructive challenge to ensure key movements, assumptions and business impacts are understood.
  • Partner with budget owners and project leads to support effective planning, forecasting, investment decisions and wider business performance.
  • Track and report the financial performance and benefits of Must Win Battles, strategic initiatives and grant-funded projects, ensuring appropriate financial governance.
  • Prepare PIP, capital expenditure, cash flow and programme reporting to support Capital Investment Programme meetings and site capital reviews.
  • Provide financial and administrative support across key agricultural and operational processes, while contributing to the development of reporting, business intelligence and management information solutions.
  • Promote strong financial controls and compliance with British Sugar and ABF policies across all areas of responsibility.

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

  • CIMA, ACCA or ACA part-qualified.
  • Strong analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to turn financial and operational data into meaningful insight.
  • Effective communicator, able to build relationships, challenge constructively and support decision making across finance and non-finance teams.
  • Organised, proactive and detail-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Curious and keen to develop a broad understanding of the business.
  • Confident using digital and reporting tools, with an interest in Microsoft Copilot, AI, business intelligence and data visualisation; experience of JDE, Hubble or Cognos Controller would be advantageous.

We are committed to creating an environment where all our people are treated with respect and given the opportunities to succeed. We want British Sugar to be a great, inclusive place to work for everyone.
