Job Title: Refinery Support Technician (Laboratory)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a technically skilled Refinery Support Technician (Laboratory) with a keen eye for detail to join our team. This role also requires the successful candidate to support factory maintenance activities outside of operational periods.The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and specialised laboratory analyses to monitor the quality of sugar beet, in-process materials, and final sugar products. This role is critical to ensuring product quality, process efficiency, and compliance with both internal and industry standards.
Core Accountabilities:
• Conduct laboratory tests on raw materials, in process samples, and finished sugar products.
• Support Factory maintenance activities during off season working within an engineering team.
• Previous experience of delivering improvements within a local team.
• Carry out planned inspection routes and routine activities on process plant.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including polarimeters, refractometers, spectrophotometers, and pH meters.
• Record and analyse test results accurately, entering data into lab records or Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., ICUMSA standards) and internal quality protocols.
• Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for quality deviations or process inefficiencies.
• Perform calibration and routine maintenance of in-line process analysers and laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Assist in preparing reports and documentation for internal audits and regulatory inspections.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment and adhere to all safety protocols.
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:
• The applicant must be a self-motivated team player, have a positive flexible attitude and the ability to cope with a changing business environment.
• Professionalism and attention to detail are both qualities that the successful applicant will possess.
• >1 years of laboratory experience is preferred.
• Related food manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory data systems.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
